Why Timehop is my favourite new app

What were you doing a year ago today? You could probably hazard a vague guess (if I were to have a guess, I’d say that I most probably woke up early thanks to my 13 month old, wandered to the shops with her in the buggy and went to Starbucks for a coffee.)

But I don’t have to hazard a vague guess. I know that a year ago today I went to a wedding in Bristol.

I wore a black jumpsuit from Wallis (with a silver sequin belt from Accessorize.)

And I Instagrammed everything in sight, including the pretty wintry table centrepieces.

I know all of this thanks to my new obsession: Timehop, an app that shows you all of your activity on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Foursquare and Flickr on the same day a year earlier (and two years earlier and three years earlier). Until recently, Timehop existed only in the form of a daily email, but now the newly launched app allows users to dip in and out whenever they fancy.

Timehop tickles my fancy because I love to reminisce. As well as showing me the photos I took at the wedding one year ago, it also showed me a beautiful photo taken two years ago today of my then seven week old daughter. And three years ago today, I posted this on Facebook:

Seeing this today made me think a) Oh. Amusing. I was still starting a Facebook status with is/has b) Yes, you join the gym. Little do you know, you’re about to get pregnant and you won’t see the inside of a gym for a long while.

Timehop is a particularly lovely way of remembering things you did with your kids, and how much they’ve changed and grown. It’s like a warm fuzzy hug in an app. Sadly, it doesn’t filter out the stuff we’d rather forget, but we’re big and tough and we can handle that, right?
