I regularly get stuck in a jeans rut. I wake up each morning, mentally scan what’s clean and hanging in my wardrobe and then usually plump for my skinny jeans and a vaguely on-trend looking blouse/top. I wish I was more adventurous, and wore cigarette pants, metallic shorts, peplum dresses, leather leggings, jumpsuits, pencil skirts… basically anything but skinny jeans.
Mum-of-two Becca feels the same, and it led her to launch FrOctober with two friends she’d met on Twitter. “FrOctober started out as a personal challenge to break me out of my lifelong jeans rut,” she says. “I thought I’d challenge myself not to wear jeans for a month, tweeted about it and was joined by Eliza and Dee, two bloggers, mums and experienced frockers who’d been inspiring me to make more of an effort for a while. It felt right to make FrOctober a charity challenge and as all three of us have some personal experience of Post-Natal Depression, we picked PNI org.uk.”
So what exactly is FrOctober? Women simply wear a dress every day in October (not the same one – phew), make some noise about it on Facebook/Twitter/Instagram and donate some cash to PNI.org.uk.
Today, I’m supporting FrOctober in a vintage (read: last season) Dorothy Perkins dress with faux-leather trim. And it’s inspired me to go out and buy some new dresses for the coming month. Here’s my pick of the high street…
Floral print dress, £17.99, H&M
Faux leather applique dress, £39.99, Zara
Gold t-shirt dress, £30, River Island
Thanks for the shout out! I’m really trying hard not to buy many (any) dresses during FrOctober but the gold one might just have tipped me over the edge… spaaaaaarkly!

No worries! I actually just tried on the gold dress in River Island and managed to resist… but only just!
Love your choices and the one you’re wearing. Such a great initiative – well done Becca for making it happen! Avril x

Thanks. And yes well done Becca for coming up with such a fantastic idea!
I’ve got my eye on that H&M one but have decided not to buy a SINGLE dress this month.
I am SO keen to get people socialising, swapping and raising dosh that I am having to lead by example on this one (eek).

Me too. I suspect it might sell out. Saw it in the store window of my local branch today.
I am a sucker for frocks. But I find I struggle with the right footwear in the colder months. Hence I am now a sucker for boots too. Still in search of that perfect boot that doesn’t hurt like hell or make me look like my gran. Tell me if you find it!

Totally agree about the jeans rut, and the frock blog was great! I try to wear my dress/tunics with my jeans so I don’t feel so boring!

Last year we bought many dresses like Bright hoodies, Breton tops, hi-tops, jean shorts. I love that some of the gentler trends can be translated to kids’ clothes. Thanks for sharing this article.
