Win An Outfit from Little Bird By Jools Oliver

Bright colours, 70s prints, retro shapes and details… the Little Bird by Jools Oliver range at Mothercare is without a doubt my favourite high street kidswear line. The designs take me back to my childhood where I wore hand me downs from my older cousins and outfits made by my mum on her sewing machine. Floral dresses with Peter Pan collars, sweatshirt dresses, velvet knickerbockers, t-shirts with the rainbows on them, I have really vivid memories of some of the stuff I wore when I was little. Here I am, aged around three, I’m guessing…

Fun at the fair

I love that I’m hard pushed to find any photos of me as a young girl wearing pink. In fact, the photo above of me, my mum and my brother at the funfair (or ‘the shows’ as we called it) is amazing because I’m in yellow and green and my brother Rod is in orange. We’re just in fab, bright colours.

That’s one of the nice things about Little Bird – floral dresses aside, there are loads of pieces you could happily put on either a girl or a boy, just like you found back in the 70s and 80s. Last week, I walked past my local Mothercare and found myself drawn in. I ended up buying two things for my daughter – a bright green sweatshirt and a rainbow star t-shirt. Both would look great on a boy or a girl…

Love this article (and the competition!). My favourite item as a child was a blue rabbit dress that my grandma knitted for me. My mum and I searched high and low to find it when my daughter was born in August 2013, but to no avail. Then it miraculously surfaced in my aunt’s attic 🙂 I was thrilled. Now I have to wait a couple of years for her to fit into it….

I adored a yellow puffa jacket I had and wore come rain or shine.
I absolutely love the little bird range, the clothes are well made, stylish and affordable. I like to think its my little secret sewing room as it makes me feel very homemade when my children wear it!

Love this post, I am a big Little Bird fan! My favourite item of clothing wheni was 4 was infact a pair of pink ballet pumps I wore to my uncles wedding. I loved them so much I took them to school everyday in a little bag! My mum binned then when they were ruined, but I wish she’d have kept them for me. Maybe why I keep all my girls shoes?!

  12. March 2, 2014 / 9:26 pm

I had a lovely bright orange dress with tiny orange flowers on a Peter Pan collar. I remember asking to wear it, I must’ve only been 4. I think I loved the brightness of it. I also loved my pillar box red cotton dungarees with rainbow drawstring. My mum kept them and my daughter has worn them and it was so lovely for her to wear them too. Hopefully my youngest daughter will wear them as well when she’s big enough.

I love retro (hence my #flashbackfridays). The one item I remember loving as a child was a red velvet dress. My mum always bought a new christmas outfit and that year I was red velvet. I am sure it had a picture of a bambi on it too – very small motif like.
