Let’s get one thing out of the way: I’m no fashion expert. In fact, I’m far from it. I regularly get it wrong and when I’m not getting it wrong, I’m playing it safe. I love a Breton top (hello, 30-something mum cliché), I wear skinny jeans even though they probably don’t really suit my body shape, my footwear ranges in an unexciting way from Birkenstocks in the summer to trainers/boots in the winter.
Despite having worked on a couple of fashion magazines, where I looked after the features teams, and had nothing to do with the actual fashion (unless you count eyeing up the clothes that had been called in for shoots, making mental shopping lists) I’m not about to win any prizes in the style stakes.
But actually, I love fashion and I love shopping. And there aren’t that many people like me (size 14/16, likes to play it safe) sharing what we wear on blogs and Instagram. There are loads of proper fashion bloggers or editors sharing what they wear – and they do look incredible in their size 8/10 dresses and on-trend looks that could be straight off the catwalk. But often, I look at their photos and think ‘That’s great but a) I can’t wear that with my mum-tum and b) There’s no way I’d be able to pull that off.’
So I’m flying the flag for normal women (Sidenote: that’s not me saying that fashion bloggers/editors are abnormal obvs) who have lumps and bumps, whose tummies haven’t looked the same since giving birth, whose thighs haven’t looked the same since that Netflix-on-the-sofa-with-a-glass-of-wine-and-Kettle-chips habit started and who love buying not too out-there clothes and accessories that make them HAPPY.
Because we all come in different shapes and sizes, don’t we? And we don’t all feel comfortable wearing head to toe sequins or a yellow PVC dress.
So I’m excited to have a new section to the blog – where you can shop items from my Instagram. You can get to it from my top menu bar and also my sidebar over on the right! Items will appear automatically after I’ve posted on Instagram, and you can click through to buy the items, rather than having to Google and search (I’ve wasted far too many hours on Asos searching for stuff I’ve spotted on Instagram…) There will also be interiors buys popping up there too, in case that interests you. Happy shopping!
