Last week, I needed a bit of cheering up, so I did two things:
1. I booked myself a hot stone massage (It. Was. Amazing.)
2. I went shopping
Gawd, I’m such a hideous cliché. Let’s ignore that for a minute, though, and pretend that it’s a really original and cool way to cheer yourself up. I bought a couple of striped tops from Gap (because I need a few more of those. I only have around 11), a pair of coral skinny jeans from Uniqlo and I ordered a pair of sandals from Clarks.
I’ve been eyeing up shoes in Clarks since early Spring, having conversations with colleagues along the lines of “Ooh, have you seen some of the shoes in Clarks recently?”. One colleague bought some pale pink brogues and one was gifted some pink and orange heels (lucky thing).
But I was on the look out for a really good summer basic. My criteria was a sandal in either tan or black with a medium height heel. Around twice a week I’d look at the Swedish Hasbeens website, lusting after at least three pairs, but as soon as I’d converted the currency into Sterling, I convinced myself I couldn’t possibly spend that much on shoes. What can I say? I’m Scottish.
I looked in Topshop and on Asos, but it was while browsing the Clarks website that I spotted a pair that ticked all of my boxes. And they were in the sale. Yippee. I ordered them and then a couple of days later, read a post on School Gate Style about Clarks summer sandals. It must be a mum thing. Is Clarks now the go-to shoe shop for on-trend mums?
My new summer sandals arrived this week and I am in love. They have a serious 70s vibe going on, they’re neutral so they’ll go with everything (from jeans to dresses to skirts), the heel is chunky so you can walk around in them with vigour, rather than having to totter around, like you have to in some heels, and they have a padded sole making them properly comfortable. And did I mention they were in the sale? £59.99 at that.
I have this silly daydream fantasy where I’m going to spend what’s left of summer skipping around in my sandals and my Boden denim A-line skirt. I’m basically one step away from becoming actual Farah Fawcett in Charlie’s Angels. That’s normal, right?
They are really fab! I’m a convert to Clarks too, a few years ago myself and the other treated ourselves to a lovely weekend in New York and of course when packing I went for style and not comfort and pack ridiculous shoes for sight seeing, by lunch time I was in agony and the OH was insisting on buying me something decent and then like a shining beacon of light, there was a Clarks shoe store! I think it was actually on 5th Avenue but I could be wrong, anyway we dove in and I bought my first shoes from them as a grown up and my feet were in heaven for the rest of the holiday! I am also lucky enough to live near their shoe factory which has an outlet store so I get to shop for half the price! X x

Brilliant Karen! Love that story. I’m a big fan of a comfortable shoe. Very envious that you live near an outlet. I’ve heard a rumour there is an outlet store in Peckham but haven’t checked it out yet.
LOVE! and Farah you will look a style guru in your coral skinnies with stripey tee and these. Ever thought about becoming a personal shopper? i’ll have one of all of the above, delivery next week? ;0) xx

ha ha! Of COURSE. They will be with you by next Tuesday. There’s a £100 delivery charge – yah?
Love love love! They are actually nicer in your photos than they are online. And you’ll have them for years (the best justification for all shoe purchases) Of course, now I NEED them in my life too. Oh and I want to see those coral jean – they sound fab. Thank you for the lovely mention – great minds and all that, Avril xx

Yes, I fully expect to wear these for years 😉
The coral jeans are fab – Uniqlo do a good skinny. Thanks for commenting!
I just bought a similar-ish pair in white from Topshop! (They’re the nano t-bar clog sandals). I did really want a tan pair but couldn’t find anything I liked – I actually checked out Clarks but didn’t find your ones! Hasbeens were my inspiration too, but so expensive for something I will only wear a couple of months of the year.

Ooh they are similar. Very nice. Love the wooden heel. These Clarks bad boys were tucked away in the ‘Originals’ section so a few people have missed them I think.
Check out these clarks beauties (currently on my feet as they will be for the rest of summer)
Not only are they 40% off but they are wedges-wot-bend, meaning you can even run in them if you are so inclined.
Every pair of wedges I’ve owned before made me walk like a pigeon. These are lush.
