My obsession with avocado on toast borders on unhealthy. Which is ironic, considering it’s a fairly healthy thing to eat. If I’m out for breakfast or brunch (heck, even lunch) and it’s on the menu, I have to order it. Because I’m nice, like that, here are 10 of my favourite places to eat avocado on toast, in London… (Where are your favourites, though? Please share with me, by commenting below!)
Caravan, King’s Cross
The perfect oozy poached egg, on mashed up avocado, sourdough toast with a sprinkle of pepper, a bit of chilli and a drizzle of oil. Sheer perfection? Well almost – it’s a bit on the small side, for greedy old me! Book here.
Gail’s, Blackheath
Another small portion from Gail’s, but packed with flavour – mashed avo, tomatoes, pine nuts and coriander. All the yum. Find your nearest Gail’s here.
Drink, Shop & Do, North London
Ahh, that’s more like it. A generous portion from Drink Shop & Do in North London – with heaps of coriander, jalapeño and lime-pickled onions. All served with a massive pot of tea! Check them out here.
Foxlow, Stoke Newington
Plain and simple, with just a sprinkle of dried chilli, but you can order a side of poached eggs if you like (disclaimer: my poached egg exploded in my face when I cut into it… so order one at your peril!) Book here.
Brown and Green, Crystal Palace
Considering this is a station caff, you can get a pretty good brunch here. This is their Aussie style eggs – avocado, scrambled egg, chilli sauce and rocket. Sounds gross, tasted divine. Check them out here.
Bill’s
A new addition to the Bill’s menu (what took them so long?!), their mashed avo on sourdough with a poached egg, chilli flakes and lime juice is mighty tasty. This has knocked my previous favourite brunch (pancakes and fruit) off the top spot. Find your nearest Bill’s.
Granger & Co, King’s Cross
No surprise, Bill Granger’s restaurant does a good brunch. Chunky wedges of avocado with heaps of coriander on sourdough and a poached egg on the side. They also do ‘interesting’ health shots if you’re that way inclined. Check them out here.
The Lavender House, Bromley
One of my favourite cafes in south east London, The Lavender House have just added Eggs California to their brunch menu – English muffin, bacon, avocado strips, poached egg, Hollandaise sauce. Done. Check them out here.
119 Lower Clapton
If you’re Clapton way, treat yourself to mashed avocado on toast, poached eggs, herbs and leaves. This was snapped by the ever lovely Poppy Loves London and you can read her favourite avocado on toast haunts here.
Balthazar
Another friend who shares my love for avo – this was snapped by Erica Davies who blogs at The Edited. Toast topped with mashed avocado, tomato salsa, poached eggs, pepper and lime juice. Just incredible to eat!
OK, so now I REALLY want to eat avocado on toast…. anyone else hungry?
LIKE THIS? WHY NOT PIN IT TO PINTEREST!
What a great idea for a blog post. I am ashamed to say I have never had avocado on toast but I will now.
I am tempted to write 10 places to eat pies in Wigan 😉
I have one to add to your list: Mud in Tooting do the most divine avocado on sour dough toast! I’m as addicted to it as you!
Love this post! I am an avocado on toast too! It started when I Nigella made it a few years back… The Riding House Cafe is good too. Yummy suggestions here x
Great post. You need to add La Dinette in Muswell Hill which is amazing!
Grind – in Putney SW15 you will love – best breakfasts – including avo on sour dough toast
Well THIS has just about ruined my morning. Thanks, Alison, THANKS.
The Aussie Eggs at Brown and Green is my regular order. Marmite and chilli jam? YES PLEASE.
Bill’s do avocado on toast! Hurrah! We actually have a Bill’s (so miss living in London). So that’s my next lunch date venue sorted.
Oh man I was supposed to be going to Granger with a DAd blogger when I come over to London for BML (I left the UK 10 years ago for the Med so I need my London brunch fix and I’ve never gone there) but we shelved it as we won’t be able to fit it in. Damn.
I’m also addicted to avocado on toast although I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t find anywhere down here that would have it on the menu. I just have to settle for making it myself for breakfast. These dishes look amazing!
Oh my goodness they all look so yummy!
Omg, I know what I’m making for lunch today!!!
That looks like a great meal
