I’ve done it. I’ve made the transition from new-mum-on-maternity-leave to working mum.
I tossed to one side the Cath Kidston change bag that I’ve been using as a nappy-bag-come-handbag for the past year, and packed my Mulberry Alexa-alike (River Island’s finest) with all the essentials: Oyster card, purse, iPhone, lip gloss, compact… and not a baby wipe in sight.
In a makeover worthy of Gok Wan himself, my look has gone from resembling Corrie’s Tracy Barlow (think faded jeans, sloppy t-shirt, scraped back hair & minimal slap) to semi-chic. I’ll be honest, though, I owe a lot to Laura Mercier oil-free tinted moisturiser, MAC concealer and good old Estée Lauder Touch Éclat…
But while I’m impressed with my transformation, I’m keen to know what you think. Here are the outfits I wore in my first week as a working mum. Have a gander & vote in the poll below!
I know, I know, what am I letting myself in for, asking ‘the internet’ to judge my look. I’m like one of those fools on Hot or Not? aren’t I? And I bet you all can’t wait to find out what I wear on week two. (As the theme tune to my favourite TV show goes ‘the only way is up’….)
And I would like to applaud you for wearing heels to work! I still haven’t quite mastered that one yet (apart from wedges and mostly only to weddings).

It’s easy when you wear flats on the journey to and from the office! x
Re: make up in photo -what’s in the compact? (the swirly marbled pink and brown stuff?)

Hi Belinda, it’s called iBronze bronzer by NewID:

Much more stylish than my suits! Dorothy Perkins jeans rock too – their skinny’s are super comfy and don’t garrott you round the waist when you sit down!!
