Getting Out Of A Style Rut: The Cropped Wide Leg Jeans

If you’ve been following my journey from ‘skinny jeans and sweatshirt’ style rut, to a more exciting and varied spring wardrobe, then you’ll know that so far, most of my outfits have been playing it fairly safe (see the dress, the boyfriend jeans, the outfits suggested by a Personal Stylist here).

So I decided to take a MASSIVE leap out of my rut and my comfort zone, with a pair of jeans from Boden. I’ve spotted fashion bloggers wearing cropped wide leg trousers since last Spring (check out Julia from Stylonylon here and Erica from The Edited in culottes here) but it usually takes at least a year for me to try a trend.

The Eton Crop trousers are really comfortable to wear, and on a warm Spring day, a bit cooler than my faithful skinnies. I played it safe, wearing them with a Breton top and my trainers, but they’d look great with block heels and a crisp shirt too. Oh, and anyone got any tips on wearing trainer socks that don’t actually show? They look a bit naff in these pics, don’t they?

Harbour top, £24.95 c/0 Joules

Eton crop trousers, £69.50 c/o Boden

Cranleigh bag, £150 c/o Village England

Stan Smiths trainers, £67, Asos

I wore this outfit last week, to a press event (and the lovely Kathryn from Kat Got The Cream took these snaps on our way to get coffee together) and then later that day, I did the school pick-up and took the five-year-old on a play date. I did feel a little self-conscious, rocking up to the school gate in these trousers, but hopefully no one batted an eye!

What’s your verdict? Do I carry them off?!

I think it does us good to mix our style up every now and then. I don’t think you have any reason to feel self-conscious in those at all. Looking good.

You look FAB! I seem to be in a rut with either leggings or jeggings. I just need to lose weight in reality but its harder said than done… I love those cropped jeans, though it is still a little too nippy up north to get the old legs out just yet…

Loving this look on you Alison!

I’ve also been thinking about the wide legged jean – and the round-toed block heel. I really need to bite the bullet and go for it 🙂 x

Love these outfits! Although I have to say that I was a little distracted by your beautiful backgrounds – that blue! The black and white! Gorgeous 🙂

I’m so scared about jeans I find them such a tricky item of clothes to work out (mainly because I’m pear shaped!) I love the look of these on you! x

Yes! My legs can’t wait to be set free into a pair of these roomy delights. Must be the mum in me. Only feels like yesterday I was saying that I’d never be seen dead in a pair of skinnies…

I use to wear wide leg jeans A LOT when I was in my teens but since skinny jeans have come in I have not looked back but seriously contemplating it now and think these look fab on your Alison 🙂

Fab shots! And these look amazing. They would be perfect for the school run or for a spring day with some nice sandals. And I bet you squealed when you saw that monochrome wall! x

I have just found your blog recently and I must say I am loving it! I’m also loving your outfit here! I actually *attempted to plunge head first into spring 2016 style by purchasing a pair of wide leg cropped Capri flayered jeans (wow, that’s a mouthful) from Zara. But wow, I failed.. They were absolutely dreadful on me . Today’s mission is to send them back!!
