My Friday Five: 25th March 2016

I’ve had a really productive week – you know that saying ‘Make hay while the sun shines’? Well, for some reason, I’ve been really motivated to work loads this week, so I’ve just been going with it, and working in the evenings, and even over brekkie some mornings. *insert fist pump emoji here*

There’s been lots of time for family fun too, though and we’ve racked up visits to the park and soft play (amazing discovery: my local soft play centre serves alcohol. It’s like they know us parents very well….). Here are five things from my week…

1. BLOOMON FLOWERS

Bloomon flowers

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have noticed I love flowers. I know, everyone loves flowers, but I have been known to have three or four bunches of flowers dotted around the house, at one time. I’m pretty sure Mr P does a massive eye roll when he gets home to see I’ve bought yet another bunch. I’ll admit it, my floral tastes are fairly unsophisticated. Daffs, tulips, roses, hyacinths – all make me happy. I even bought some carnations a few months back, which felt a bit 90s and retro. If money was no object, I’d have a big bouquet of gorgeous flowers delivered each week. I was recently asked if I’d like to try out Bloomon flowers – and LOOK at what arrived. A huge bouquet of gorgeous, unusual blooms. They get flowers direct from the growers, rather than from a market or auction, so they’re even fresher than normal and last longer. So these bad boys were still going strong, this week, despite arriving 10 days earlier. Check ’em out!

2. Making nice lunches at home

The best lunch ever

When you work at home, it’s so easy to get stuck in the rhythm of boring lunches: beans on toast, soup, sandwich. So I’ve started trying to make a bit of an effort with lunch, thinking about the things I love when I eat out and how to recreate them easily at home. This avocado on toast with feta, chilli and balsamic glaze was an absolute winner. This is on sourdough toast, but I’ve been looking for some low carb ideas because I’m trying to lower my carb intake. Not because of some fancy-ass diet, but because there’s a link between carbs and sugar intake, insulin levels and hormone dips. Follow my low-carb lunches Pinterest board if you want some inspiration.

3. The perfect rose gold flats

Next rose gold sling back shoes

I’m a self-confessed flats fan. I spent years battling to wear heels and failing – even when I had highfalutin’ job on the senior team of More and then Look magazine, I’d wear flats for most of the day and change into heels for meetings (under my desk was AWASH with heels). For me, it’s all about comfort comfort comfort.

So I get a bit excited when I discover a pair of pretty flats – like these ones which arrived c/o Next. They’re rose gold sling backs, cost £26 and they’re so shiny and lovely.

4. New shoes for the kiddo

Kurt Geiger Girls BOOM sliders

I wasn’t the only one who received new shoes this week – we were invited to the launch party for Mini Miss KG – the girls’ range from Kurt Geiger. The event was AMAZING – with bowling, glitter hair braiding, tattoos, nail painting, a disco and an ice cream cart. Basically, my five-year-old’s idea of heaven.

She was given these silver BOOM sliders – they’re a little bit big for her at the moment, but that didn’t stop her from wearing them last weekend (even though it was very much still boot weather). Other shoes in the range that I LOVE are these gold glitter trainers, these monster trainers and these winged trainers.

5. Best mate dates

Dates with your fella are great and all, but there’s something special about a best mate date, isn’t there? I went on one last week, and we went to see Adele at the O2. She was INCREDIBLE. Like oh-my-gosh-how-can-she-sing-so-amazingly-well-I’ve-got-goose-bumps incredible.

We went for some Italian food and prosecco beforehand … and um, we ended up getting to the concert late and we missed the first few songs. But once we were there, we had an amazing time singing along with her. Actual concert of the year (OK, it’s the only concert I’ve been to in about a year, technically).

Love this post! Making me think I need to jazz up my lunches! As a SAHM (for now) I always have a boring old sandwich whilst watching Liv eat her snacks. Need to make more of an effort! Plus I absolutely love that flat lay and those Next shoes are GORGE! xxx

the avocado on toast with feta, chilli and balsamic glaze looks delicious. It’s so easy to get into a routine of boring dinners so i like the idea of mixing it up and trying out new concoctions x
