My name is Alison and I have a Breton top obsession. I know, it’s a middle-class cliché. But they just go with everything! And what’s wrong with being a cliché anyway, that’s what I say. There’s safety in numbers, right?
But if, like me, you’ve got one too many Breton tops in your wardrobe, you might want to kick the habit and branch out into different styles of top. I’m here to help…
The key to breaking your Breton habit, folks, is to do it gently. And slowly. Don’t just wake up one day and throw all of your blue and white striped tees in the charity shop bag. That’s just crazy talk and a one-way ticket to Regretsville. Instead, you need to wean yourself off them gradually.
These Harbour Tops from Joules are the perfect way to do it.
Harbour tops, c/o Joules, from £17.95
They’re an easy way to move away from the blue and white Breton, but stay within your comfort zone. You’re adding a splash of summer colour, experimenting with it, but not straying too far from what you know. They come in lots of colours – these are my favourites above, but I also love the Pink and Orange Stripes top and the new season Cream Red and Navy Stripes top.
I’ve had a few of these Harbour Tops in the past and they wash really well (that green striped top, above, has been washed lots of times, and the pink striped top next to it is brand new – not much difference in how they look, is there?)
Maybe one day, I’ll break my Breton habit but for now, these colourful stripes are a good middle point. Now hands up who’d be interested in a Breton Lovers Anonymous support group…
This post made me smile and I’ve been lusting over the Joules Bretons for many years… Hmmm, maybe I should treat myself! x
Both my Joules Bretons are the clasic blue and white numbers!! Love these alternatives
Said it before and I’ll say it again: you rock a stripe. Love these colours!
Haha you learn something new every day! I had no idea what a Breton top was, when I read the title I assumed it was a type of muffin! The tops look lovely though and they really suit you.
Nat.x
Oh my I know just what you mean – I have so many Breton tops although I am trying to no wear them as it quickly comes to my “go-to” top and then I never step out and do something different – so loving these new takes on the standard breton

Oh I love these on you! And I kind of want one now but I can’t decide on a colour. What do you reckon? Pink for me? xx
Oh goodness, I love these! Sod breaking the habit, just buy more! I have to say I’m usually very boring and stick to the classic navy and white, although I may branch out a little and treat myself to the cream, navy and red one 😉
