My absolute favourite birthday present last week was an iPad Mini. My gorgeous husband Mark clubbed together with his folks and my folks to treat me to a brand new gadget. It’s not like I even knew I wanted one – don’t you think some of the best gifts are things you didn’t even know you wanted? But clever Mark thought it would be nice for me to have my own iPad.
Our other iPad (bought for us by my brother Rod to celebrate the birth of his niece Grace in 2010) is first generation which means it’s large, heavy and slow. We can’t even update it to iOS7 because Apple determines it as too old to update (clever Apple, as it makes people more likely to buy a new device.) And over the past year or so, the family iPad has very much become “Grace’s iPad”. Our three-year-old has lots of Toca Boca games on there (Hair Salon is my her current fave) as well as knowing exactly how to navigate YouTube to watch Tom & Jerry or y’know, random people opening Kinder Eggs. The screen is covered in fingerprints and baked beans smears (yes, really. We are a classy family.)
It’s been a while since the iPad was used for anything aimed at over fives.
So now that I have a proper grown up iPad mini, the family iPad kind-of-officially belongs to Grace. It’s even now encased in a suitable home – a Beatrix New York tablet case. The hip US brand loved by many a celebrity mum and dad is now available in John Lewis and we were sent one to try out. I first came across Beatrix New York when it was featured on Modern Mum MusthaveĀ last summer and was struck by their cool designs. We’ve got the robot tablet case and it also comes in a ladybird, dinosaur and owl design. All very cute. And if it’s good enough for Harper Beckham…
In the past week I have really enjoyed having my OWN iPad to use. It’s such a treat. There are no games on there and any time I see the three-year-old eyeing it up, I firmly remind her that it’s Mummy’s iPad. So far, so good…
I have iPad envy! I don’t have one. Sob. Loving that Beatrix New York case though. If I DID have one, would it be bad to home it in a kids’ iPad case?

Yes. You would need to house it in a lovely Cath Kidston case or maybe even Marc by Marc. š
That IS a fab case! Although I’m doing everything to avoid my two having I-pads! I only JUST got one for Christmas! They’ve got Kurios which I’m SO pleased with – my i-phone is now my own again! BLISS! x

Ooh I hadn’t heard of Kurios but they look good. Are you loving your new iPad??
