Smart Christmas Shopping with Shoptagr

Alison Perry

My name’s Alison and I love getting a bargain. Perhaps it’s because I’m Scottish (we like to save our pennies, us Scots!) but nothing gives me more joy than snapping up something I’ve spotted and loved, at a discount price. It’s heart-flutteringly exciting and gives me a little buzz that lasts all day. But rather than battling the Black Friday crowds last week, I’ve been saving money on my Christmas shopping in a much easier way.

Shoptagr is a website that allows you to build shopping lists and wish lists, and it notifies you when the items you select drop in price. It’s genius. I’ve created lists for my family and friends, adding items that I’m thinking about buying them for Christmas, and Shoptagr sends me a phone notification if the items drop in price. It’s also really handy because if something is out of stock in the size or colour you’re after, Shoptagr can notify you when it comes back in stock. So clever.

The site is really easy to use, and there’s a smartphone app too, so you can build lists on the go.

I’ve also created a list of things I would like for Christmas (and my birthday – it’s on the same day after all!) so that when my friends and family ask me if there’s anything I would like, I can share my list with them really easily. PLUS…. when it comes to the Boxing Day sales, I’ll be notified if any of the items go down in price, and I can snap up anything that’s still on my list.

Shopping with Shoptagr is simple – on a desktop, you can install the browser button and whenever you’re on a retail site that works with Shoptagr (loads of my favourite stores do, from Boden to Asos – see the full list here) you simply go to the item you want to add, click the Shoptagr browser button and a box will appear which asks you which list you want to add it to, and what kind of notification you want (price drop / stock levels). It’s that easy.

On a smartphone, you download the Shoptagr app, then browse as normal on Safari and when you want to add something to your list, you click the ‘save’ button. select Shoptagr and hey presto, it adds the item to your list.

Here’s my list for my best mate’s Christmas present – I’ve added a few things that I think she will like, and asked Shoptagr to notify me if any of them drop in price. If none of them do drop, I’ll buy full price (obviously!) but it’s good to know I might get a bargain. There’s also a top on there that’s out of stock in her size, so I’ve asked Shoptagr to tell me if it comes back in stock.

This is my Christmas wishlist – I’ve shared it with my husband, who has asked me for ideas on what to buy me (a few relatives usually ask him for ideas too!) and it means he knows the exact shade of MAC lippy I’m after and the size and colour of PJs too.

I love how my lists are displayed in a really easy-to-view Pinterest style way. You can order your lists by brand and retailer too, to make it really easy to find things. Head over to Shoptagr to check it out for yourself and start making lists for your Christmas shopping! Get that heart-fluttering feeling when you get a bargain!

Ooh this sounds like a great idea! I’ve never heard of Shoptagr but I’m terrible for thinking of great gift ideas and then completely forgetting them so it would suit me down to the ground. I think I’ll have a look at it after Christmas to keep my ideas together for next year.

Now this is what I need. I love a bargain but always seem to miss the discounts on my favourite pieces or by the time i get there it’s sold out in my size.
