Are Scholl Light Legs The Ultimate Black Tights?

ADVERTORIAL

There are certain things in life that I feel require a long-term commitment to trial, seek out and discover the perfect version. Mascara. Shampoo. Tea bags. Black tights. They are all things that can make or break a day – or a week. If you’re ever spent time wearing clumpy mascara, have hair that’s not quite clean yet frizzy at the same time, feel wholly dissatisfied with every cup of tea you make, or have itchy/too small/too baggy/laddered tights and you will know exactly what I mean.

And the tights issue is one that feels trickier than the others to nail. Because we don’t wear them all year round, we’re lulled into a false sense of tights-free security. Then, come October, BAM. We remember that we need to start wearing tights again, and so the endless quest starts up again, to discover the perfect pair.

So what’s the criteria for this seemingly mythical perfect pair of tights? Nice and opaque please. Not itchy. Not too tight. Not too loose (no one likes a baggy gusset that ends up down at your knees, right?). No sheen. Perhaps a bit of holding-in action.

It doesn’t feel like the trickiest nut to crack, but you’d be surprised how many opaque frogs I’ve kissed over the years.

Which is why I was as KEEN AS MUSTARD to road-test Scholl’s Light Leg Tights in 60 Denier.

So what do Scholl claim these tights can do?

Well, you know that feeling when you get to the end of the day – after either racing around to meetings and sitting at your desk, or hot footing it from the school gates to your child’s swimming class then home to cook dinner – and your legs are feeling heavy and tired? Scholl say that their Light Leg tights are a remedy. How so, I hear you ask! Well, the tights have a specialist yarn in them which has been scientifically proven to boost circulation and prevent that tired and heavy leg feeling.

They sound great, don’t they? So I wore them for a whole day and to test them out…

Putting them on, I noticed that they felt quite tight and I had to manoeuvre them on carefully, but as soon as they were pulled up properly to my waist, they felt VERY comfortable. I wasn’t sure if my brain was telling me this because they’re called Light Legs, but they really DID feel light on my legs!

The day was a real mix of standard mum duties and a lovely afternoon tea, so I needed an outfit that would be comfortable and practical but smart. And warm! Because there’s a bit of a nip in the air at the moment. First up, I went shopping with my mum and the seven-year-old. After traipsing around our local shopping centre, looking for a birthday present for my friend’s little boy, we stopped off for coffee.

Then it was home to make lunch for everyone and an hour or so of helping the seven-year-old to do her homework (anyone else’s head hurt when trying to explain division?). My mum – who knew I was testing out the tights – asked me how my legs were feeling, and despite all of the shopping and walking into town and back, they felt good so far.

Next, I headed off with my mum into Central London where we met my mother-in-law for afternoon tea at one of my favourite places in London – The Wolseley.

We stuffed ourselves on tiny sandwiches, huge fruit scones and delicate cakes (although, I admit, we did take home a doggy bag of cakes for Mr P) and set the world to rights whilst casually looking around to see if any famous faces were at nearby tables. (I once saw Sienna Miller there – and Esther Rantzen!) Then we bundled ourselves back up and headed for home, through the cold rain.

So how did my tights do, after the full day test?

My legs felt a bit tired after all the walking I’d done, but did they feel less tired than normal? I couldn’t tell…. possibly! I certainly wasn’t desperate to peel off the tights, as soon as I got home, which I often do, and change into my PJs.

Would I recommend these tights to a friend? Yes. They’re not cheap (RRP is £14.99 per pair) but they’re also not as pricey as some of the luxury brands of tights (which I once spent £20 on and was very unimpressed with). I’ll be interested to see how they look after a few washes and wears (apparently they’ll last up to 100 washes without losing shape or compression). On my first wear, however, I was impressed with how they felt on me, how they looked and if they’re boosting my circulation then that’s a real bonus. The next challenge will be wearing them when I’m on my feet ALL day, volunteering at the school Christmas Fair! Let’s see how they fare (pardon the pun) then!

I’m a sucker for a comfy pair of tights (WHY is it SO HARD to find them?!) and these are some of my favourites – I discovered them last year. They’re fab!

They look lovely on – esp in the last picture. My question is – did they roll down at all? This is my biggest pet peeve with tights! I don’t mind paying a little more if they don’t.

Scholl support tights are just fantastic. Have been wearing them since I was advised to do earlier this year. They look good and really do the job.
