Revamp Your Make Up Bag For Under £10

Boots Natural Collection

How’s your January going, so far? 50% of the people I ask say “Wooo! It’s going great” (these are the people who are smashing their Dry January/gym/work goals) and the other 50% grimace and tell me how much they dislike the grey weather and hate feeling the pinch, money-wise.

Let’s be honest, January is the calendar equivalent of a massive hangover – it follows the big prosecco-fuelled party that is December, and most people deal with it by battening down the hatches and waiting for February to arrive.

But I’m all about making January as much fun as possible. I’m talking ‘inviting friends over to drink gin, going on a little spa break, eating ALL the cheese’ kinda fun. If we carry on with the December fun, right through until February, before we know it, spring will arrive and everything will be well with the world. That’s my theory, anyway.

One of the things I’ve done to inject fun into January is treat myself to some pampering goodies – I bought some posh bath oil and a lovely hair conditioning mask, which are two of my favourite ingredients for a long soak in the bath (the other two ingredients are my book and Radio 2…. because I’m middle-aged).

I’ve also revamped my make up bag because I decided that I needed to add some summer glow to my look (apparently lots of gin and cheese isn’t so good for the complexion. Who knew?) A couple of months ago, I rediscovered Boots Natural Collectionread my post and watch my video – and because the range is all priced at £1.99, it’s ideal for a guilt-free January treat. I went for a bronzer, a gold eyeshadow, a brown eyeshadow and a brown eye pencil to give me a softer summery look, and also a lovely raspberry lip colour, which is a departure from my usual red lippy.

Boots Natural Collection

Eye Lines Pencil in soft brown, Solo Eyeshadow in golden sand, Solo Eyeshadow in crushed walnut, Sheer Natural Lipstick in Raspberry and Suntint Bronzing Powder in golden glow.

All five come in at under £10, which is a pretty good deal, if you ask me! I’m already loving the lipstick and I’m looking forward to trying the other products to give me a sun kissed glow.

If you’re thinking of revamping your make up bag, here are some tips from me:

  • Even if you usually buy premium make up, trying out new colours and products from an affordable range is a GREAT idea because you won’t break the bank (plus you might just discover that affordable ranges can be excellent quality too – win!)
  • Chuck out any old make up that you’ve had too long – check the expiry date and look at whether any mascaras are dried up (top tip: when your mascara stops making that ‘pop’ noise when you take the wand out of the bottle, that’s a sign you need to replace it.)
  • Think about how you apply your make up and whether any sponges and brushes need replacing too.
  • Check out Pinterest for new make up ideas and trends – and YouTube for tutorials on how to apply!

I’ve got some more ideas for beating the January blues, which you can see on this little video I filmed…

If you’ve got any more ideas on how to bring a little December joy into January, please do comment below and tell me! Now, who’s up for a cuppa and slice of chocolate cake….

Feel good treats

I adore that raspberry coloured lipstick – it’s so bright and summery, I must get one. I also like your January philosophy – I’m all for spa days and long baths with a good book. Enjoy the rest of the month – at least you look great doing it!

I think it would really suit you, Jenny! And for £1.99, it’s not a huge risk to take, is it?

Chucking away make up such a good tip! Seriously some of my stuff is totally grim. It’s great to be able to replace it with a more budget product. Fab tips! x

I love how positive your post it. The lipstick looks incredible on you, it’s a great shade.

Love this post, I am forever having to replace my makeup. Forget revamp! With a 13 year old girl, and a savvy 7 year old to teach her the art of plastering mummy’s makeup on all over her face.. well my makeup is not mine anymore. I have taken to settling for the bits and bobs that I have managed to keep well and truly hidden. That or go crazy each time I find the left overs of my once makeup pieces!

I’ve always really rated the Natural Collection blushers, and like you said, it’s a great way to try out some new shades that perhaps you wouldn’t have if they weren’t so cheap!

This is something I really need to do, a total revamp of my make up bag. I love that everything is £1.99, what a great bargain. I love January (I know, I am weird) and embrace the fun of December as it’s mine and my daughter’s birthday this month x

I totally need to revamp my makeup bag and have been thinking it’s going to break the bank doing so! I definitely need to start by getting some new brushes and sponges as I read somewhere the other day that it’s all about application not always the makeup! Great blog will look out for some of these products.
