Getting Out Of A Style Rut: The Boyfriend Jeans

Alison Perry

The second in my little mini series of posts about getting out of a style rut (see the first post over here) is all about making small changes to your look – you don’t have to go miles out of your comfort zone to make a difference to your wardrobe. My main style rut issue is that I always wear skinny jeans and either a long sleeved tee or a sweatshirt. Not a bad look, I hope you agree, but every day? YAWN.

So with this outfit, I’ve done some really easy swaps, that I think make a big difference.

These boyfriend jeans from Next give a different shape to a look – loose fitting and rolled up, they scream ‘relaxed’, especially when worn with trainers. Over my trusty Breton striped top, I’ve popped a lime green cardigan from Joules. I usually steer clear of cardis but I thought I’d give this one a go, and I think I might be a convert. They’re so easy to throw on, for an extra layer and a splash of colour.

These jeans might just be the answer to kicking my skinny jean addiction, you know! What do you think?

They look great – I am definitely in the same skinny jeans rut, especially in winter when it feels too cold to experiment. Jeans shopping always makes my heart sink though! But I do like Next’s denim so maybe time to try something new…

Love this look. I’ve always been a bit wary of boyfriend jeans but it’s a great idea to turn them up!

Looks fab, Alison! Boyfriend jeans don’t need to be baggy, you’ve got them spot on fit-wise to flatter and dressed up with jewels, colour and print to perfection! x

You know, I’ve never tried jeans turned up. I just should give it a go. It means actually shaving my legs, though! Love this look on you, especially the lime.

They look fab bab! I am trying a bit more denim at the moment. And the odd dungaree dress. It’s hard as I have a big ole Mum tum that needs covering. I suppose I could get fit but….you look beaut xxx

I’d love to try boyfriend jeans but I’m not sure I could pull them off because I’m so tall! I do love Next jeans though – I always find their sizing is really nice and gentle on the self esteem too! x

These jeans looks great on you and I like the colour of them too. I’ve gone mega relaxed in all my jeans now and I’m quite partial to a bit of ankle-skimming turn up especially now spring’s here! xx

I would never have thought of Next for jeans! I’m also stuck in a skinny rut, will give them a try for some boyfriends. Hurrah for warmer weather equalling ankles out x
