3 Outfits To Take You Into Autumn

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I was all up for resisting autumn entirely – you know, just refusing to acknowledge that it was even a thing. “I’m quite happy if we have an extra month of summer, and then we go straight into Hallowe’en and Christmas, thank you very much,” I told myself. But then I remembered the nice things about autumn… the leaves turning bright red, yellow and orange (let’s gloss over the part where they go brown and the rain makes them sludgy underfoot), those pretty limited edition Starbucks cups, snuggling up on the sofa, under a blanket. Granted, not the biggest list in the world, but it made me see that it’s not such a bad season after all.

And yet, I do struggle with autumnal fashion. My brain is so stuck in the summer dress/sandals or jeans/tee/sandals combo – which let’s face it is so EASY – that it kind of fizzes with confusion when it starts to get colder and I need to wear warmer clothes. Which shoes go with this outfit again? Will this coat go with that bag?

It takes a few weeks for me to get into the swing of autumn dressing, but this year, things have been made a little easier thanks to FatFace who asked me to pick out three outfits to take me into the new season. Want to see them?

Cora dungaree dress, £48 // Hollie t-shirt, £25

This black denim dungaree dress is my new favourite thing. I’ve got the blue version, also from FatFace, and I’ve worn it all summer long. The brilliant thing about the black one is that it will be perfect with black tights and boots, when then weather turns colder. But for now, I’m wearing it with bare legs and trainers. The long-sleeved white tee is so incredibly soft – when I wearing it, my fingers kept brushing the cotton and making me think about what amazing quality it is. FatFace’s USP is that all their clothing is ‘Washed in Happiness’ so they feel like comfortable old favourites even on their first wear.

Otley Lace top, £38 // Sapphire Super Skinny Jeans, £45

Jeans and a top is my go-to outfit pretty much always. Unexciting? Maybe. But it’s a good basic outfit, and when something works, it works, right? I was really impressed with these jeans – and I don’t get impressed by jeans very often. They’ve got just enough stretch in them to be flattering, and they’ve got a fairly high rise which is ideal for holding in a mum tum. Probably an inch or two too long for me, but I’ve been turning them up at the bottom (I’m far too lazy to have clothes altered). I am LOVING the top – the detail is so pretty and it’s a really flattering cut, and does well in the ‘hiding the mum tum’ stakes too.

Aberfoyle cardigan, £45 // 5-pocket Jeggings, £40

I’ve never bought jeggings before – I’m not even sure I know what a jegging is – but these ones basically look like skinny black jeans, so I’m a fan. They look good with boots, as worn here, but I’ve also worn them with lace up flats and trainers too. I wore them here with the long-sleeved white tee and threw on the long grey wrap around cardigan. I’m so not a cardigan type – I’ve been trying to get into them recently, and I have to say, I really like this one. It was ideal for a late September day that was chilly one minute and warm the next. When I wore it, I felt like I was WINNING at autumnal dressing, which has got to be a good thing, right?

I love autumn, but your’re right, it is tricky to dress for. I find shoes particularly tricky and always end up wearing boots when I should be in sandals and vice versa. There is some lovely stuff here though, and you look gorgeous as ever 🙂

Love these outfits and love the photos too! I’m a big fan of a black dunga dress and have cracked mine out for autumn already. Love the cardy too. So pretty!

You are looking really rather lovely! I’m in a massive style rut, and not sure I can carry that lovely dress off, but it’s got me thinking anyway, so thanks 🙂 x

Oh I just love Fat Face! I rarely buy clothes for myself but if ever I do treat myself that’s my favourite place to go. I like your choices too. I’ve noticed people wearing dungarees and dungaree dresses. It’s a look I really like because it’s so casual, totally my sort of style.

It’s so hard making that switch from summer wear to autumn although I am loving all the colourful leaves this season. Thanks for the inspirations. Really like the white too! Great to meet you at WTM yesterday. X
